I've been going on and on about going to Canterbury for a mini break but have yet to share many pictures. Well, strap yourself in because this is going to be a long post full of photos!
As I already wrote, my hotel was on the cathedral's grounds and because of the bitterly cold weather I ended up spending a huge amount of time in the cathedral. It provided me with the opportunity to take lots of photos, soak up the calm atmosphere and listen in on some fantastic rehearsals.
the Carmina Burana rehearsal setting up
The choir was rehearing on my second visit and on my third visit, I managed to arrive in time to hear a full rehearsal of Carmina Burana. The acoustics were amazing and I got a bit teary- the music is stunning and it was just a bit overwhelming to be surrounded by such history at the same time as listening to the sort of music that gets right into you.
I love architecture in general and whenever I'm in a cathedral I revel in taking in all the features (those ceilings!) so I took a lot of photos of the stonework. Ready for all the pictures? Here they come.
